Where Will Curiosity Take You?
Unlocking Potential Through Coding
In the latter part of last year, I embarked on an adventure into the world of Python through a self-paced online course. My aim wasn't to transform into a professional programmer but to quench my curiosity about coding — to understand its mechanics and see if I could grasp it. Here's what I've learned so far, which might resonate with anyone on a similar journey:
Finding Flow-State
Almost instantly, I discovered the "flow-state" — that magical zone where time seems to evaporate, leaving you more energized and focused. Coding presented challenges that were not only stimulating but also deeply enjoyable. I coined this experience "good frustration" — the joy of being thoroughly engaged in problem-solving.
Expanding My Passions
Drawing inspiration from Marcus Buckingham’s Love+Work, I pondered what specifically about coding captivated me. It wasn't just the programming or the language itself; it was the puzzle-solving aspect. The logic, the structure, and the triumphant moment when a solution works — these elements truly sparked my passion.
Learning About Myself
This journey into programming has illuminated my personal strengths. I thrive on autonomy, enjoying the freedom to design and execute solutions my way. The moment when concepts start clicking effortlessly and new ideas begin to form has been like finding a sweet spot, one I'm eager to delve deeper into.
I don’t have a clear endpoint in mind for this exploration. I'm simply navigating through new territories, and what an exhilarating journey it is!
